Check an article for SEO, AEO and GEO before you publish

Paste your draft, upload a Word document, or point at a published post. It works for a blog post, a guide or a landing page. You get three scores: SEO (found in Google), AEO (quoted as the answer) and GEO (cited by AI assistants such as ChatGPT). Then the fixes. Every rule comes from Google's published guidance, a 2024 study of AI search, or a standard reading-ease test. The text you upload is not stored.

By checking, you confirm you have the right to use this content and agree to our Terms of Use. We check your document and then delete it.

How we score an article

Every check is a fixed, published rule. There is no model guessing at your writing, no benchmark against other people's pages, and the text itself is not stored. All 36 rules are listed with what makes them pass, and each one names the document it comes from.

SEO40% of overall
Search engine optimisation

Can a search engine tell what this is about, and show it well? One clear headline. Headings in order. The target phrase where it counts. Enough depth, sentences people can read, and images with a description.

16 rules
AEO30% of overall
Answer engine optimisation

Could Google's answer box, or an AI assistant, take a direct answer straight out of this? The answer has to be up front, not after a warm-up. Then headings written as questions, lists, steps, tables, plain definitions, and sections short enough to quote.

GEO30% of overall
Generative engine optimisation

Would an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity cite this? It wants evidence: figures, named sources, quotations, an author, a date, first-hand experience, and specifics where most copy reaches for an adjective.

How the numbers are made

Each rule carries a weight: high counts 5, medium 3, low 1. A pass earns the full weight, a warning half, a fail nothing. A rule that cannot apply to what you gave us is left out, not counted against you. The Google preview text, for instance, is only judged on a published page. Your category score is the share of the weight you earned. Overall is 40% SEO, 30% AEO, 30% GEO.

That weighting is deliberate. Being found still comes first, so SEO carries the most. But a page that ranks and cannot be quoted is losing ground every quarter, so the two answer-side scores together outweigh it.

What the rules are based on

Google's guidance on AI features says two things plainly. A unique point of view and first-hand experience beat writing anyone could have produced. And you do not need special machine-readable files or markup for AI. The KDD 2024 study by Aggarwal and colleagues measured what actually moves the number. Visibility rose by as much as 40%. Adding statistics, quotations and cited sources did most of that work. Keyword stuffing did nothing, or hurt. That is why no rule here rewards cramming in a keyword, and why the GEO rules look for evidence.

A score is an estimate of how ready a piece is, not a prediction of rankings or of being cited. No tool can promise either, and one that does is selling something.

Good to know

Article checker questions

  • Is this article SEO checker free?

Yes. The article checker is free, with no sign-up. You can check up to six drafts a minute, and there is no total limit. Paste text, upload a Word document or enter the URL of a published post.

  • What is an article SEO checker?

An article SEO checker is a tool that scores one piece of writing rather than a whole website. This one runs 36 fixed rules on a draft or a published post. It scores content SEO, answer engine readiness (AEO) and generative engine readiness (GEO), then lists the fixes in order.

  • What is the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?

SEO is search engine optimisation: can Google tell what the piece is about and rank it. AEO is answer engine optimisation: can Google's answer box, or an AI assistant, take a direct answer straight out of it. GEO is generative engine optimisation: would an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity cite it. The overall score is 40% SEO, 30% AEO and 30% GEO.

  • Can I check a blog post before I publish it?

Yes. Paste the draft or upload the Word document, fix what fails, run it again, then publish. Three rules need a published page: the Google preview text, links to your own pages, and the Article label. Pasted text also skips the image checks. Check the URL again once it is up.

  • How do I get an article cited by ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity?

Give the engine something worth quoting. Put a direct answer in the first paragraph. Add figures with units, named sources and at least one quotation. Name the author and the date. A 2024 study of AI search found that adding statistics, quotations and cited sources raised visibility by up to 40%, while keyword stuffing did nothing.

  • What can I upload?

Pasted text, a Word document (.docx), a plain text file, a Markdown file, or the URL of a published article. A target keyword is optional. Give one and the checker also tests where it appears and how often.

  • Do you store my draft?

No. The text is checked on our own server and discarded. We keep the scores, the pass or fail outcomes, the word count, your keyword and, for a URL, its address. That is how we see which problems are most common. A fingerprint of the text is kept to count repeat checks, and it cannot be turned back into the text. Nothing is sent to an AI model.
